Vinegar Cleaner

If you haven't already, give good old vinegar and water a try for a household cleaner. I waited a long while before mixing up a batch because I couldn't believe it would work as well as chemical cleaners. Recently, I decided to give it a whirl.

I mixed half vinegar and half water in a spray bottle, added a few drops each of tea tree, lavender and peppermint essential oils, and mixed in a couple of drops of liquid castile soap. It works great on greasy stoves, kitchen counter tops and bathrooms. And it's inexpensive!

Have you tried a natural cleaner that works particularly well? Let us know!

Found your blog on Catholic Mothers Online-
Vinegar must be the most versatile product in the world! I am new to blogging and read from other bloggers on a daily basis how effective it is at replacing just about anything chemical. I'm working on phasing out all of my chemical products and replacing them with natural homemade ones. Thanks for the tip!

Robyn,

Thanks for stopping by. I am new to blogging too. As far as using vinegar, I really should copy down some recipes for additional household cleaners. I know that baking soda works well too. If you find a really good one, let me know!

Hi diana!

Thanks for stopping by my blog - thought I'd check out yours too!

I use vinegar routinely. It's GREAT. I use a simple half-vinegar, half-water solution in a spray bottle for all my windows and counters. I also use vinegar in place of liquid fabric softener in the rinse cycle (gets the soap residues out of clothes and also prevents static). I also use an olive oil/vinegar solution for dusting and cleaning wood. In a bowl, mix a cup of olive oil with 2 t vinegar. Whisk together to mix, then soak a dusting cloth. Rub the cloth around to get it evenly distributed, then go dust your furniture! It's my favorite, and really keeps my wood nice.

Hi Shauna,

Thanks for stopping by. And thanks for the wood cleaning recipe. I will definitely give it a try.

The vinegar and water mix seems to work well as a deodorizer for trash cans. I was able to give that a thorough test this weekend!
